In my internship, I worked with Karu Capital, an Alberta-based company which is trying to address a few micro-industry challenges. Alberta car insurance is divided into two parts, Open market insurance for all the good drivers and Residual Market Insurance for drivers with DUIs or who have unique vehicles, which is unlike in British Columbia, where we have a government insurance system with ICBC for all types of drivers. The issue with Residual Market Insurance is that the agent or broker selling the insurance must go through the complex rate manual to determine the pricing which is extremely confusing. The purpose of this project is to digitize and transform this traditional rate manual to bring more accuracy and efficiency that reduces labor time and allow the users to focus on high-level tasks.
Understanding the target audience's experiences sheds light on the broader issues faced by residual market insurance agents in Alberta. Sammy, our user persona, struggles with the complexity of the Facility Association Alberta Rule and Rates Manual, highlighting the need for innovative solutions that simplify complex information and improve efficiency.
